We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator (Db2 Specialist) to join with our federal government client on a long term contract. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on large-scale, mission-critical systems with a strong focus on mainframe Db2 administration and optimisation.

As a Database Administrator Expert, you will be responsible for scoping, sourcing, and optimising database environments to support enterprise-wide solutions. You will provide hands-on administration of Db2 databases, working closely with stakeholders and technical teams.

The role involves:

• Migration of ObjectStar Table datastore to Db2 on z/OS
• Design, maintenance, and optimisation of Db2 databases
• Upgrading Db2 to Version 13
• Ensuring database integrity, security, and availability across enterprise environments

Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert advice to stakeholders and technical teams on database administration
• Plan and manage software installations, upgrades, and maintenance across Db2 environments
• Administer database configuration, security, schema, and objects in line with agreed standards
• Implement corrective actions to improve performance, resilience, and availability
• Design and plan backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures
• Escalate and manage system issues with vendors to minimise downtime
• Lead the development of standards, processes, and security practices for data assets
• Prepare and review technical and corporate documentation

Essential Criteria

• 5+ years’ experience in Mainframe Db2 Database Administration
• Strong knowledge of IBM Db2 tools (Recovery Expert, Clone Tool, etc.)
• 5+ years’ experience with monitoring and diagnostics (Omegamon, Query Monitor)
• Proven experience rolling out Db2 maintenance across mainframe systems
• Proficiency with z/OS interfaces (ISPF, REXX, JCL, etc.)
• Understanding of z/OS software installation methodologies (SMP/E)
